With time, the business has grown into a network of branches, and depots across nine locations. All of which have been installed with some variation of the Merridale pump and management system.

I’m a big fan of the automated reporting! Our team use the software daily to monitor stock levels and control who has access to the pumps, but I don’t really need to go on FuelWorks. I get the reports sent through to my email automatically each month and can go through everything I need to in my own time.

Simon Marsh of Arnold Laver said “We’re long-standing Merridale customers, all our sites have had Merridale pumps for as long as I can remember. And we’ve upgraded some of it and added new bits here and there over the years, so that shows how much we trust the Merridale brand.”

Although some of these systems are Merridale’s older models that still function reliably, many of the newer branches now use Merridale’s MX range. Built to be the complete solution in commercial fuelling and designed to meet strict ATEX standards, the Merridale MX-I is a highly accurate and reliable fuel pump that has a built-in management system, capable of controlling up to four pumps and communicating with Merridale’s reporting software, FuelWorks.

“Each installation has needed to be different to suit each site and tank. Merridale have always been able to accommodate for each situation, whether that’s by fitting the pumps with the tank or as a separate stand-alone unit, or by customising the pump with a high-hose mast or heavy-duty reel.”

As well as having Merridale MX-T tank management systems installed across the network, Arnold Laver also uses Merridale MX-M fuel management systems at sites without a Merridale MX-I, still enabling a link up to Merridale’s FuelWorks reporting software. With this, they benefit further from features such as fuel stock prediction, automatic delivery detection, low-level warnings, and order prompts, all accessible on any web-enabled device.

Merridale FuelWorks also allows fleet operators to have multiple users across multiple sites accessing unrivalled reporting features including fuel usage and costs, vital MPGs and environmental impact data, including both vehicle and driver performance, all capable of being delivered automatically to your inbox.

Aggregate Industries Add Another ‘Faultless’ Merridale System to Their Network https://merridale.co.uk/construction-mining/aggregate-industries-add-another-faultless-merridale-system-to-their-network/ Mon, 15 Jul 2024 13:32:53 +0000 https://fuelmanagement.co.uk/?p=2752 Aggregate Industries UK, who have a range of Merridale equipment across nine of their networks of quarries and depots including an original Merridale Auditor first installed in 2000, recently installed Merridale’s latest MX-I pump and fuel management system and the MX-T tank management system at their quarry in Shrewsbury.

merridale mxi mxtJames Ward of Aggregate Industries said “Over the years that we’ve had Merridale equipment I’ve never been disappointed. The pumps are faultless, I’ve never had any complaints from any of the team when using it. As you can imagine, it stands up to some heavy usage with our fleet too.”

Since 1994, Merridale has been producing built-to-order products using only the best, tried, and tested components. With all Merridale products designed in-house to achieve a minimum life of 10 years and meet strict ATEX standards, there is no compromise on build quality.

James continued “Not to mention the added security and access restrictions we have now! We know exactly who is refuelling what and when. It’s reassuring to know you always have an eye on the fuel in a way, especially with the tank stock sudden-drop alerts.”

Merridale’s MX-I can include a variety of data entry options before the pump dispenses fuel such as DataKeys, DataTags or the more robust v-Link magnetic connection system. Drivers can also input passcodes and vehicle data using the robust alpha-numeric keypad.

For when a pump is kept outside and not protected by the anti-vandal security shutter of a Merridale tank, the MX-I features an auto-lighting and auto-dimming display screen to help avoid attracting unwanted attention during dark hours.

Merridale’s tank management systems also include stock depletion detection, to alert you immediately via SMS or email, of an unexpected drop in fuel level. This means that you can be alerted to any severe leak or theft from the tank, irrespective of where you are, buying you valuable time in preventing further loss.

For complete functionality, the Merridale MX-I links seamlessly with Merridale’s FuelWorks fuel management software to unlock a wealth of reporting and monitoring functions.

FuelWorks allows multiple users to report on and monitor their environmental impact, fuel usage, costs and vehicle performance across multiple sites or tanks. Data can be accessed in real-time using any web-connected device and scheduled reports can be automatically processed and sent to the required parties. FuelWorks also has the capability to monitor tank levels and predict low stock, with email alerts being sent in such events.

“FuelWorks has been a great help too. We really appreciate the alerts about deliveries and tank stock levels but having access to vehicle performance reports is a nice bonus. It was very easy to get to grips with too, the training was simple and didn’t take us long.”

The software has been designed in-house by Merridale to be as user-friendly as possible, without sacrificing any functionality. Merridale also offers unrivaled levels of support and training, with initial training being available remotely, and a help desk on hand to offer ongoing support.

Temporary Power Giants Trust in Merridale for Fuel Management https://merridale.co.uk/construction-mining/temporary-power-giants-trust-merridale-fuel-management/ Wed, 19 Jul 2023 18:10:50 +0000 https://fuelmanagement.co.uk/?p=2568 Following steady growth in their business in recent years, and with the introduction of their dedicated, nationwide fuel desk – John F Hunt Fuels - in 2023, the business recognised that that the refuelling and monitoring equipment in place didn’t quite meet the requirements of their operation.

MX-I & MX-T Fuel Management System
MX-I & MX-T Fuel Management System

A representative for John F Hunt Power, explained “We tried a system before Merridale but ran into difficulties when trying to gather data and detect fuel deliveries. It became frustrating having to manually amend reports to make them match up. We heard about Merridale through our branch in Newcastle, who had an older pre-existing Merridale pump and management package.  They hadn’t had any trouble with theirs and the new Merridale range offered all the features we needed, so we decided to make the switch.”

“With our new Merridale system, all transactions and deliveries are picked up automatically and reported on accurately and instantly without me doing anything...

With this upgrade, John F Hunt Power now use Merridale’s MX-I heavy-duty diesel pump with integrated fuel management system, alongside a second MX-P heavy-duty pump. Both units are controlled by the integrated system and are fitted with dual hoses, capable of dispensing both 70 and 90 litres per minute to accommodate the refuelling of both standard vehicles, fuel tankers and large machinery.

As well as this, John F Hunt Power invested in a Merridale MX-T tank management system which works in tandem with the fuel management system to provide accurate stock recordings to their Merridale FuelWorks software.

“Merridale were very accommodating as our tank is slightly different to most. Alongside the standard diesel pumps, we have a ‘skid’ capable of dispensing thousands of litres in just minutes which is used for filling tankers. Merridale were able to offer a bespoke setup and replaced the pre-installed gauges, so the ‘skid’ is now included as part of the system and linked with FuelWorks.”

As standard, a Merridale tank management system features a highly accurate gauge with precision pressure probes and overfill sensors. The intelligent tank management system can also include stock depletion detection, to alert you immediately, via SMS, of an unexpected drop in fuel level. This means that you will be alerted to any severe leak or theft from the tank as soon as it occurs, irrespective of where you are at the time.

By transferring the data to the Merridale FuelWorks web-based service, via the fuel management integration, you can benefit further from fuel stock prediction, automatic delivery detection, low-level warnings, and order prompts, all accessible on any web-enabled device. Merridale FuelWorks allows fleet operators to set up multiple users across multiple sites to access unrivalled reporting features including fuel, cost, environmental impact, and vehicle and driver performance.

“With our new Merridale system, all transactions and deliveries are picked up automatically and reported on accurately and instantly without me doing anything. When you are working with the large quantities and figures that we see in a week, accuracy and automation are vital. That’s what you want at the end of the day isn’t it? That’s what you pay your money for!”

ABN Agri set to negotiate vendor managed inventory using Merridale’s web-based fuel management reporting service https://merridale.co.uk/construction-mining/abn-agri-set-to-negotiate-vendor-managed-inventory-using-merridales-web-based-fuel-management-reporting-service/ Mon, 04 Feb 2019 10:48:40 +0000 https://www.fuelmanagement.co.uk/?p=1583 ABN Agri, one of Merridale’s longstanding customers has upgraded fuelling facilities within its network of eleven depots, to enable more efficient procurement of its transport fleet’s fuel supplies. The company, which is a leading supplier of animal feed, has been using Merridale fuel management systems for two decades.
“It is not surprising therefore, that the Merridale system has become one of the company’s standard business management tools for cost accounting and transport fleet efficiency,” says ABN’s national distribution manager, Ken Hardgrave.

“As well as providing usage reports, the web service has also paved the way for vendor managed inventory, a significant step forward in our fuel procurement procedures.”

“We introduced centralised records in 2003 with the initial implementation of Merridale FuelFX software,” he said, adding. “We have continued to upgrade the equipment, for instance to incorporate AdBlue dispensing. Twelve months ago, we moved across to the web-based platform, which has further reduced the level of localised administration required by the depots.

“As well as providing usage reports, the web service has also paved the way for vendor managed inventory, a significant step forward in our fuel procurement procedures. To achieve this capability we have upgraded all of the depot’s storage tanks to provide real time updates of stock levels contents. This information is now available to our head office as part of the fuel management status ‘dashboard’.

“This means that, potentially, we have the means to implement VMI for fuel, simply by allowing our fuel supplier to access this information. Given the current status of the tank levels for each depot, our fuel supplier will be able to plan deliveries to make the most efficient use of transport capacity and route planning.”

“Currently ABN Agri is operating a fleet of 120 specialised delivery vehicles, servicing customers’ requirements for animal feed products across the UK. The market is highly competitive and our fuel usage is measured in millions of litres. Therefore, any savings we can shave off from our operating costs, for both logistics as well as vehicles, will make a big difference.

Animal feed is also a commodity product, which means that customers are equally sensitive to changes in price. As one of Britain’s top manufacturers and suppliers of animal feed products, ABN Agri sees its future success as a shared commitment for sustainability, working together with livestock farmers to help underwrite the overall profitability of this sector.

Using Merridale reports to monitor carbon footprint https://merridale.co.uk/construction-mining/using-merridale-reports-to-monitor-carbon-footprint/ Fri, 21 Apr 2017 10:10:58 +0000 http://www.fuelmanagement.co.uk/?p=1297 Nationwide construction hauliers, Gordons Transport, has upgraded its depot fuelling facilities to support its growing fleet requirements. The investment includes a new Merridale Auditor twin hose commercial pump, providing both high (90l/m) and standard (70l/m) flow rates for HGVs and vans. For fuel management, all stock transactions, including gas-oil for the fork lift trucks, and AdBlue have been brought together under a single web-based platform.

The pump has been installed onto a relocated fuelling point which also includes a separate AdBlue dispenser. Drivers access fuel by using a datatag which identifies the vehicle. Fuel management has been switched over to the Merridale FuelWorks service. This is being used in conjunction with a Merridale tank management system, providing online status and fuel usage reports. Since this is online, the system will warn of any sudden drop in fuel levels – an additional security feature.

Gordons specialises in transport for the construction industry. This includes tower cranes, insulated building panels and modular buildings, all of which have to be transported by flat-bed trailers. Although based in Yorkshire, much of the company’s work is in the London area.

“Keeping accurate records of our transport fleet fuel consumption has become a crucial operational requirement,” explains managing director, Jonathan Atkinson.

“Our fleet consumes around one million litres of diesel a year. It pays therefore to implement effective management procedures. Apart from cost accounting, our efficiency performance has a direct impact on our fleet’s carbon footprint. By using Merridale reports we can show that we have achieved target reductions over set periods of time. For this is an on-going process of continuous improvement, covering vehicle servicing, route planning and good driving practice.

“Such measures are necessary to obtain accreditation under the FORS (fleet operators’ recognition scheme). Next to safety, fleet efficiency is an essential standard for operations within the major conurbations and in particular, Greater London.”

Gordons Transport has used Merridale fuel management software for over 15 years. The switch over to the Merridale FuelWorks web based fuel management service has been seamless,” says Jonathan Atkinson.

“As far as the drivers are concerned the only difference is that we are now using datatags to identify the vehicle being fuelled.”
