The Fuel Savings Calculator, now live at the top of the Merridale website, is a simple but powerful feature that shows potential annual savings in just a few clicks.

To use it, you just enter how much fuel your fleet uses each month and what you’re currently paying per litre. The calculator will then estimate how much you’re likely to save over the course of a year if you move to a Merridale system. For many businesses, the savings can be significant — especially if they choose to store fuel on-site and buy in bulk at lower prices.

Merridale has been helping fleets across the UK improve their fuelling operations for years. Their systems are designed to give businesses greater control over fuel use, reduce waste, and stop unauthorised fuelling. Customers using Merridale’s equipment often benefit from lower fuel costs by avoiding retail pump prices and taking advantage of bulk buying.

But it’s not just about cheaper fuel. Merridale’s systems also track how much fuel is being used, by which vehicles, and when. This kind of detailed reporting helps fleet managers understand where fuel is going and how to make operations more efficient. It also makes it easier to prevent theft or errors and helps businesses stay compliant with industry standards.

The new calculator is based on this proven track record. It gives a quick and easy way to see the kind of savings Merridale customers are already experiencing. Whether you’re managing a small fleet or a national operation, it’s a useful starting point to explore the benefits of switching to a more efficient fuelling setup.

So if you’re still relying on forecourts for fuel, now’s the time to find out what you could be saving. Head over to merridale.co.uk, try the Fuel Savings Calculator, and take the first step towards smarter, more cost-effective fleet fuelling.

S&R Smith & Son continue to trust Merridale in fuel management upgrade https://merridale.co.uk/fleet-operators/sr-smith-son-continue-to-trust-merridale-in-fuel-management-upgrade/ Tue, 10 Dec 2024 12:12:05 +0000 https://fuelmanagement.co.uk/?p=2829 Until recently, the Essex based haulage company, who have been operating since 1949, used Merridale’s older fuel management software, FuelFX, to monitor and report on fuel usage but chose to upgrade this year following their acquisition by the Lockwood Group.

Although FuelFX is still capable of fulfilling many fleet operators’ requirements, it has since been surpassed by Merridale’s FuelWorks web-based software. Unlike FuelFX, which lead the way as the first Windows-based fuel management software in 1995, Merridale FuelWorks can be accessed from anywhere in the world using an internet connected device.

“The newer FuelWorks software is so much more accessible than its predecessor! Previously, we had a stand-alone system with restricted access but now we can allow multiple users access to data from across multiple sites.”

With this upgrade, they now use Merridale’s MX-I heavy-duty diesel pump with integrated fuel management system and a Merridale MX-T fitted to their existing tank, alongside Merridale FuelWorks.

Lee Penson of S&R Smith & Son said, “We were satisfied with our existing Merridale setup but saw this as an opportunity to renew and grow our fuel management capabilities, whilst connecting us to the larger Lockwood Group.”

H W Coates Upgrade Their Fuel Management System To Merridale’s FuelWorks https://merridale.co.uk/fleet-operators/h-w-coates-upgrade-their-fuel-management-system-to-merridales-fuelworks/ Mon, 15 Jul 2024 13:22:53 +0000 https://fuelmanagement.co.uk/?p=2755 The distribution and warehousing giants first invested in a Merridale fuel pump back in 1995 at their Newmarket depot. This same pump is still in use today, alongside a slightly newer Auditor FS which was installed in 2002. In all, across 5 different sites, H W Coates have installed the entire range of legacy Merridale pumps and fuel management systems and have since started installing their latest Merridale MX range for newer sites.

Merridale MX-IUntil recently, H W Coates used Merridale’s older fuel management software, FuelFX, to monitor and report on pump usage and tank status across their five sites. Although this is still capable of fulfilling many fleet operators’ requirements, it has since been surpassed by Merridale’s FuelWorks web-based software. Unlike FuelFX, which lead the way as the first Windows-based fuel management software in 1995, Merridale FuelWorks can be accessed from anywhere in the world using an internet connected device.

Merridale’s web-based FuelWorks reporting software is the software of choice when it comes to gathering, managing and reporting accurate fuelling data to fleet operators in the UK. With FuelWorks being accessible through any standard web browser, the flexibility and accessibility enjoyed by the end user is enhanced. There is no need for software to be installed onto office computers and the customer can avoid extensive training, security, and backup issues. Following nearly three decades of using FuelFX, H W Coates has taken the step to upgrade to FuelWorks.

Neil Buck of H W Coates told us “The upgrade has gone really well, we are very happy with the new setup. It is definitely an improvement on the old software and makes things much easier, we don’t have any restrictions with accessing and sharing reports and there seems to be much more depth to it.”

With the software being securely hosted by Merridale and accessible online using a dedicated username and password, there is often no requirement for IT departments to be involved in the setup. Customers also like the ability to access their fuel management software on their mobile phones and tablets, ideal if they are offsite and need to make a quick amendment or check some data.

“We used to only have access to the software on the one office computer but now I can allow access to anyone who has a smart device. Just the other day, I was able to create a live report for someone and leave it ready for them to access when they next log on. Before, I’d have needed to print that off or export it as a document and email it to them. Small things make your day easier sometimes.”

H W Coates were able to take advantage of FuelWorks’ enhanced benefits without having to worry about the huge initial cost of replacing their existing equipment. Although their new Merridale MX installations were already compatible with the new software, H W Coates’ inventory of older Merridale pumps were able to be upgraded rather than replaced. The housing units on Merridale’s products are designed to ensure that internal components are easily accessible for maintenance and repair, as well as being easy to update rather than having to replace the whole system.

For any fleet operators considering fuel management systems or an upgrade to their current installations, Merridale’s sales team are happy to discuss any requirements and arrange a demonstration of the web-based software using Microsoft Teams. This gives potential users the opportunity to view the software, see the capabilities and understand how the technology could help to improve their fuel control process.

Why is good fuel management important for recovery companies? https://merridale.co.uk/fleet-operators/why-is-good-fuel-management-important-for-recovery-companies/ Fri, 08 Sep 2023 12:15:16 +0000 https://fuelmanagement.co.uk/?p=2596 Cost Efficiency

Fuel expenses can be a significant portion of a recovery company's operational costs. Effective fuel management helps in minimising fuel consumption, which in turn reduces operational expenses and increases overall profitability. It is not uncommon for a business to save 4% or more per annum on their fuel bill after incorporating a fully consolidated fuel management solution, such as Merridale’s MX pumps, gauges, and fuel management systems utilising Merridale’s FuelWorks reporting software.

Resource Allocation

Recovery companies often have a fleet of vehicles that need to be dispatched for various recovery tasks. Proper fuel management ensures that vehicles are optimally allocated to jobs, taking into account vehicle type, the type of fuel they use and the mpg they achieve. A good fuel management system makes it easy to make these considerations very quickly, reducing unnecessary fuel consumption, inefficient routing, or poor performance.

Merridale’s web-based FuelWorks is the software of choice when it comes to gathering, managing, and reporting accurate fuelling data to fleet operators in the UK. Merridale have developed their software with the ability to automatically produce, schedule and email these necessary reports to key personnel. Capabilities also include exception reports to help identify rogue performing vehicles. So, the fleet-operator is always in the best position to make the right choices.

Service Reliability & Time Management

Recovery operations are often time-sensitive, especially in cases of accidents or breakdowns on the road. Effective fuel management means that vehicles can reach their destinations without unnecessary stops for refuelling, saving precious time during critical operations.

Efficient fuel management ensures that on-site storage tanks and recovery vehicles have adequate fuel levels before heading out for jobs. This helps prevent situations where a vehicle needs to stop to refill or even runs out of fuel during a recovery operation, causing delays and compromising customer satisfaction. A good tank management system, like Merridale’s MX-T, will include features such as stock level alerts and sudden-drop detection to prevent leaks or theft.

Environmental Impact & Regulatory Compliance

Reduced fuel consumption directly contributes to lower emissions and a smaller carbon footprint. Recovery companies can improve their environmental stewardship by using a professional fuel management system that enables them to monitor and act on their environmental impact.

For some companies, there may be regulations or standards related to vehicle emissions and fuel efficiency. Adhering to these regulations is not only a legal requirement but also contributes to the company's reputation as a responsible and compliant operation. The ability to produce FORS environmental impact reports as standard, makes Merridale’s FuelWorks software the application of choice when it comes to fuel management.

Merridale have many customers who are FORS members and do benefit from FuelWorks’ extensive reporting features when they are required to produce specific environmental impact information across their vehicle fleet as part of their membership.

Data-Driven Insights

Fuel management systems provide data on fuel consumption patterns, driver behaviours, and vehicle efficiency. Analysing this data can help recovery companies identify areas for improvement, such as training drivers to adopt fuel-efficient habits, replacing vehicles that consistently consume excessive fuel or by simply servicing those vehicles that perform poorly.

Customer Satisfaction

Efficient fuel management indirectly impacts customer satisfaction. Timely and reliable recovery services reflect positively on the company's professionalism and dedication, leading to better customer retention and potentially attracting new clients through positive word of mouth.

Welbeck Transport trust in Merridale’s service for upgrade https://merridale.co.uk/fleet-operators/welbeck-transport-merridales-service-upgrade/ Tue, 28 Feb 2023 15:44:07 +0000 https://fuelmanagement.co.uk/?p=2475 North Yorkshire-based haulage specialists, Welbeck Transport Ltd, have declared a ‘second-to-none service’ as one of the key factors in their decision to upgrade to Merridale’s fuel management system.

The family run company, based in Malton, specialise in delivering a variety of goods all over the UK, ranging from steel and timber, through to building structures and waste. Their fleet consists of seven articulated tractor units and 18-tonne rigids, all of which are flatbeds.

Welbeck Transport's Merridale Fuel PumpJan Berek of Welbeck Transport said “Before switching to Merridale we had an ancient fuel management system in place, we must have had it for over 30 years. It was a management system as such but nothing like now, you could run very basic reports but could only identify the vehicle and not the different drivers for example. It did the job for a while but then eventually it crashed and the parts had become obsolete.”

“After speaking with a consultant, we narrowed the shortlist down to Merridale and one other company but the level of service from Merridale stood out over the competition. They were always very quick to respond and just seemed more on-the-ball overall.”
With this upgrade, they now use Merridale’s MX-I heavy-duty diesel pump with integrated fuel management system, alongside web-based software Merridale FuelWorks. Welbeck Transport also invested in a Merridale MX-T tank gauge.

As standard, a Merridale tank management system features a highly accurate gauge with precision pressure probes and overfill sensors. As well as this they can now include stock depletion detection, to alert you immediately, via SMS, of an unexpected drop in fuel level. This means that you will be alerted to any severe leak or theft from the tank that occurs, irrespective of where you are at the time.

By transferring the data to the Merridale FuelWorks web-based service, via the fuel management integration, you can benefit further from fuel stock prediction, automatic delivery detection, low-level warnings, and order prompts, all accessible on any web-enabled device. As well as this, Merridale FuelWorks allows fleet operators to setup multiple users across multiple sites to access unrivalled reporting features including fuel, cost, environmental impact, and vehicle and driver performance.

On Merridale FuelWorks Jan Berek said “Being able to access such depths of data from anywhere online has made my job a whole lot easier. Part of the old process was to have the drivers write a log of their usage so that I could cross reference that with my reports and make sure it all adds up. I no longer feel the need to do this given how accurate and reliable Merridale FuelWorks is, I’ve found that I now have a lot more confidence in the reporting.”

Lions Upgrade Proves Its Worth https://merridale.co.uk/fleet-operators/lions-upgrade-proves-its-worth/ Tue, 20 Dec 2022 10:39:54 +0000 https://fuelmanagement.co.uk/?p=2438 A leading Birmingham-based transport and warehousing company has credited Merridale’s fuel management system for its usability when reflecting on its transition to the new system.

Lions Logistics have been using Merridale’s equipment and software since upgrading their systems in October this year. Their existing tank was in good enough condition to continue to use but their pump left them unable to restrict who could use it or gather any data on stock or usage.

“In the short amount of time we have had the software, we have already noticed a difference. Fuel spend is better and we can identify high-usage areas and customers, this helps us to account for every litre of fuel purchased. The whole system is so simple to use, I’ve found it to be brilliant so far and there are features I’ve still not used.” Explained a Lions representative.

As part of the upgrade, which included a Merridale MX-I fuel pump with an integrated fuel management system and an MX-T tank management system. Lions also chose to use Merridale’s web-based software FuelWorks. With this, users can access data from any device connected to the internet and export reports as spreadsheets if required.

FuelWorks has become increasingly popular with Merridale’s current customers. Due to its ability to be accessed through a web browser on any device FuelWorks gives the user complete flexibility and accessibility, eliminating the need for the software to be installed on a limited number of nominated devices.

FuelWorks allows multiple users to report on and monitor their environmental impact, fuel usage, costs, and vehicle performance across multiple sites or tanks. It also has the capability to monitor tank levels and predict low stock, with email alerts being sent in such events.

“With the initial training and help of the support team you become familiar with Merridale’s FuelWorks software very quickly and it becomes simple to use. Support was the key, the help desk phoneline was a great help. Now FuelWorks is my first port of call in the morning, it is something I monitor every day.”

Merridale pump labelled ‘the best ever’ by leading distribution company https://merridale.co.uk/fleet-operators/merridale-pump-labelled-the-best-ever-by-leading-distribution-company/ Wed, 02 Nov 2022 09:44:50 +0000 https://fuelmanagement.co.uk/?p=2413 An award-winning distribution company from the heart of the Midlands has recently praised the performance of their new Merridale equipment following their investment in a Merridale MX-I heavy duty diesel fuel pump with built-in fuel management system in May 2022.

Paul Ponsonby Limited has offered warehouse solutions and specialist distribution services since its humble beginnings operating from a small warehouse in Birmingham with a single vehicle. Since joining the original family company, D.J. Ponsonby, and learning the trade through years of varied roles, Paul went on to launch Paul Ponsonby Limited in 1998 with the ethos to recreate an operation that reflected their commitment to gold-standard customer service. The company now boasts a warehouse of over 100,000sq ft and has a fleet of 14 vehicles using their newly installed Merridale package.

MX-T Tank Management System
MX-T Tank Management System

Paul Ponsonby said “Initially we just had a free-vend pump that did the job for re-fuelling as such, but it was on the slow side and lacked security. The old system didn’t give us any real control over who could use it and when. Investing in the Merridale package solved this but also opened us up to live tracking and reporting.”

This coupled with recommendations from others who had Merridale equipment, ensured that Paul knew he was investing in a trusted and reliable brand.

Built to be the complete solution in commercial fuelling and designed to meet strict ATEX standards, the MX-I integrates the intelligence and control of Merridale’s MX-M fuel management system with the reliable performance of the MX-P pump in a single cabinet. Having both systems in one robust unit makes it an ideal and cost-effective solution for fleet operators with limited space.

The MX-M fuel management system gives fleet operators the control of up to four pumps with several options available to allow access to fuel. They also have the option to unlock the benefits of Merridale FuelWorks web-based software to measure fuel usage, vehicle performance, driver efficiency and environmental impact.

The complete MX range has backward and forward capability, meaning all components can be repaired or replaced without having to change the entire unit. The entire MX range have all been designed to interface seamlessly with each other and with older Merridale systems. This gives fleet operators the chance to avoid over-complicated ‘mix & match’ solutions from multiple manufacturers.

All Merridale’s products are designed, developed and manufactured in-house from their Wolverhampton factory, using only the best tried and tested UK-sourced components wherever possible to ensure continuity of supply.
Paul continued “It is the best diesel pump I’ve ever seen in my life. It’s fast, it’s reliable, the software is straightforward and Merridale has been helpful throughout!”

As part of the upgrade, Paul Ponsonby also invested in a Merridale MX-T tank management system. As standard, an MX-T features a highly accurate gauge with highly accurate contents probes and overfill sensors.
By transferring the data to the Merridale FuelWorks web-based service, via the fuel management integration, you can benefit further from fuel stock prediction, automatic delivery detection, low-level warnings, and order prompts, all accessible on any web-enabled device.

Merridale’s tank management systems can now also include stock depletion detection, to alert you immediately, via SMS, of an unexpected drop in fuel level. This means that you will be alerted to any severe leak or theft from the tank that occurs, irrespective of where you are at the time.

Royal recyclers join the digital age with Merridale https://merridale.co.uk/fleet-operators/royal-recyclers-join-the-digital-age-with-merridale/ Fri, 20 May 2022 12:28:52 +0000 https://fuelmanagement.co.uk/?p=2363 Experts in waste management, Baco-Compak, have recently opted to move away from paperwork for monitoring their fleet and transition into digital reporting using Merridale’s FuelWorks.

Before the move, they relied only on handwritten accounts of their fuel usage to track and report on their fleet of tankers, rear-end loaders, and articulated lorries.

With our company having so many different branches and sectors all operating under the same fleet, Merridale’s FuelWorks has made it simple to cross-reference and run reports on specific areas.

The Kings Lynn-based family-run business has over 40 years of experience in waste disposal and provides a range of waste collection services across West Norfolk, including to Her Majesty The Queen’s Royal Estate.

As part of the upgrade, which included a Merridale MX-T tank management system and a Merridale MX-I fuel pump with an integrated fuel management system, Baco chose to use Merridale’s web-based software, FuelWorks, to work in conjunction with these systems. With this, users can access data from any device connected to the internet and export reports as spreadsheets if required. FuelWorks gives the user complete flexibility and accessibility, eliminating the need for the software to be installed on a limited number of nominated devices.

Baco's Merridale Fuelling InstallWhen asked about Baco’s transition to FuelWorks, Sue Worley, who oversees the day-to-day running of the fleet said “We initially wanted a system to help prevent fuel theft and allow us to spot irregularities, but it allows us to do so much more. After a short training session on how to use FuelWorks and once all the drivers were set up with their new fobs, we were confident and ready to go. I was surprised at how quick and easy I found it to learn the new software.”

FuelWorks allows multiple users to report on and monitor their environmental impact, fuel usage, costs, and vehicle performance across multiple sites or tanks. Reports can be fully customised and scheduled to be sent directly to your inbox. It also has the capability to monitor tank levels and predict low stock, with email alerts being sent in such events.

“With our company having so many different branches and sectors all operating under the same fleet, Merridale’s FuelWorks has made it simple to cross-reference and run reports on specific areas. Previously, we had bits of paper passed between departments and would have to input the data into spreadsheets and do some workings out yourself. That could sometimes take a while, whereas now it’s done for you at the click of a button.”

Bedford Haulage Firm Chooses Merridale’s Personal Touch https://merridale.co.uk/fleet-operators/bedford-haulage-firm-chooses-merridales-personal-touch/ Thu, 31 Mar 2022 08:01:01 +0000 https://fuelmanagement.co.uk/?p=2319 The family-run business established in 1962 has an ever-growing fleet of 45 vehicles, all tailored to suit the different needs of their customers. Their general haulage includes tonne bags, steelwork, cable drums, containers, and everything else in between. Alongside this, they run a range of tankers, hook-loader vehicles, vans, and LGVs.

In 2020, the FORS GOLD accredited company chose Merridale’s complete fuel and tank management system as the ideal package for their Bedford home. Included in this package was the MX-I, a heavy-duty fuel pump with an integrated fuel management system, and the MX-T tank management system, which work hand-in-hand with FuelWorks.

Merridale had a real personal touch and went the extra mile for us before and after installation.

With all Merridale products designed to achieve a minimum life of 10 years and meeting strict ATEX standards, there is no compromise on build quality. However, Merridale do not just pride themselves on the quality of their products, there is also an emphasis on after-sales care and support.

A representative of D & G Noble highlighted customer service as one of the reasons they opted to invest in Merridale products, saying “Merridale had a real personal touch and went the extra mile for us before and after installation.”

Following the installation of new fuelling equipment, Merridale provided them with access to software training and technical support helplines, inspections and calibration services, repairs, and ongoing updates when available.

As the manufacturer, rather than just a distributor, Merridale has a total commitment to the life of any of their products and not just to the sales process. Their staff are fully trained to understand your requirements and have access to all repair and upgrade history, so unlike third-party companies, they have full knowledge of your systems and carry genuine Merridale-approved parts to all appointments.
