A long-standing Merridale customer, Linburg Bus & Coach has once again demonstrated its commitment to reliable, data-driven fuel management by expanding its use of Merridale systems across three new sites more than ten years after their original shift from paper logs to using Merridale’s FuelWorks reporting software.
Back in 2013, Linburg made the leap from handwritten fuel records to a Merridale Auditor GX management system, coupled with Merridale’s FuelWorks web-based software. The upgrade transformed their operations across depots in Sheffield, Derby and Nottingham, replacing time-consuming manual logging with accurate, automatic reporting accessible from any connected device.
At the time, company director John Hadaway praised the system’s simplicity:
“Initially, the thought of moving to FuelWorks was almost intimidating, but I quickly found it simple to use and navigate. It’s so easy!”
“I can’t think of a time I’ve looked at our reports and wished FuelWorks could tell me something more. It covers everything.”
That usability has stood the test of time. Over a decade later, Linburg’s original Auditor GX installations remain fully operational — a testament to the build quality and reliability of Merridale equipment.
While Merridale’s MX range has since surpassed the GX line, Linburg’s early systems have been upgraded to integrate seamlessly into the modern network, enabling all depots — new and old — to work together through FuelWorks. This ensures that data from every site, whether operating legacy GX units or the latest MX hardware, flows securely into one central platform.
At their new Greenford depot, Linburg has installed a full suite of Merridale’s latest technology:
- MX-T Tank Gauge – for continuous monitoring of tank levels and stock reconciliation
- MX-M Management System – providing secure driver identification, data capture and control
- MX-P Pump – delivering robust and precise fuelling operations
Meanwhile, at Surrey and Tamworth, Linburg has introduced MX-M management systems, providing the same control and accountability at all locations.
Each of these sites is linked via Merridale FuelWorks, creating a single, multi-site network that allows Linburg to monitor usage, analyse performance, and schedule replenishment in real time — from any device, anywhere.
FuelWorks remains the backbone of Linburg’s operation. The platform gives users complete oversight of environmental impact, fuel usage, and vehicle performance across every depot, while delivering automatic reports and alerts for low-stock conditions.
John’s verdict still stands today: “I can’t think of a time I’ve looked at our reports and wished FuelWorks could tell me something more. It covers everything.”
Linburg’s growth has been mirrored by its evolving fleet. Today, the South Yorkshire-based operator runs a modern, mixed fleet of over 40 vehicles that includes double-deck and executive coaches based at multiple depots nationwide. These high-capacity vehicles serve a wide range of clients, from corporate contracts and schools to major sports and tourism operations.
Linburg’s continued trust in Merridale reflects a partnership built on performance, reliability, and future-proof technology. From the long-serving Auditor GX to the latest MX-T, MX-M and MX-P systems, Merridale’s products have evolved — but the company’s promise of secure, simple and intelligent fuel management remains unchanged.
