Nicholls selects Merridale® fuelling systems for its new transport hub

Turnkey project includes vLink tags and fuel management as a service.

Another major logistics transport hub in North Kent has been equipped with Merridale fuel management facilities. This latest installation underlines the company’s ability to secure repeat business as existing customers either upgrade or invest in new commercial depot fuelling facilities.

“Through that process I became increasingly impressed by the Merridale team’s capability to put together a total forecourt installation package. They recommended contractors to do the pipework and supply the tanks. Merridale installed the pumps and tank contents instrumentation. They returned to calibrate the dispensers, commission the software and provide the training and handover to our office staff. They delivered a completely managed package, from start to finish.”

Having outgrown its former premises at Sittingbourne, Nicholls Transport has moved out to the Swale Way Logistics Park, on the outskirts of the town. The company’s new premises include offices, a warehouse, vehicle parking, purpose built garage facilities and a fuelling point with underground storage tanks.

“We decided to appoint a prime contractor for the fuelling point,” explains financial director, Darren Sherlock. “A turnkey project was set up covering the site preparation, pipework and installation of four 75K litres underground tanks. The specification included pump dispensers, a fuel management system and an appropriate security device on the trucks, to allow access to pumps.”

“Our incumbent fuel management services provider and MIS Fuel Monitoring (Merridale) which had supplied the pump dispensers used at the former premises, were both invited to put forward competitive proposals.

Darren Sherlock continues. “Through that process I became increasingly impressed by the Merridale team’s capability to put together a total forecourt installation package lilly cialis. They recommended contractors to do the pipework and supply the tanks. Merridale installed the pumps and tank contents instrumentation. They returned to calibrate the dispensers, commission the software and provide the training and handover to our office staff. They delivered a completely managed package, from start to finish.”

A notable feature of the Nicholls installation is the use of the Merridale vLink plates which are fixed ID tags attached to fleet vehicles. Each of the pumps has a tag reader to identify the vehicle as part of the authorisation process. The main benefit of vLink is it provides a more robust alternative to individual keys or proximity fobs which can get lost, damaged or misused. Another aspect of the Nicholls installation was the integration of the fuel monitoring communications directly into the company’s existing data network infrastructure – which cuts costs as well as ensuring absolute resilience for data transmission.
