The Three Cs - Conformity

To reflect on growth and development in that period, we have recently introduced and documented some examples of the founding principles that have created the Merridale that we operate today.

Here we address the abilities of Merridale to ensure that equipment offered meets with, and sometime exceeds, the highest manufacturing standards required.

This involves adherence to both electrical and manufacturing requirements, where since inception Merridale has always strived to ensure that all manufactured equipment branded as Merridale complies with all electrical, mechanical and machine requirements and recommendations.

This has been achieved by implementing features such as ensuring that all high-voltage equipment is housed internally in lockable enclosures within the fuel management system, away from any user functional controls. As well as this, Merridale also adopted the use of emergency stop switches, provided as standard on all fuel pumps whilst many competitors offer this as a costed extra.

One of the most significant challenges came in 2016 when diesel became re-categorised due to the lowering of the flashpoint threshold. This meant that all electrical assemblies housed within the zoning areas of diesel installations should meet an ATEX standard. This also meant that fleet operators should be more concerned with meeting their DSEAR requirement for their annual risk assessments.

Whilst the use of equipment certified to ATEX standards does not appear to be mandatory, users of non ATEX certified equipment should be aware that they should be prepared to accept themselves any risks of using such non-certified equipment and to identify this within their DSEAR risk assessments.

All Merridale equipment in the MX-range adheres to important regulations such as:

UK

  • Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016
  • Electromagnetic Compatibility Regulations 2016
  • Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008
  • Pressure Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016
  • Equipment and Protective Systems Intended for use in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2016

EU

  • Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU
  • Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive 2014/30/EU
  • Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC
  • Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU
  • ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU

As well as these regulations, Merridale also conform to the applicable requirements of the standards:
BS EN 13463-1:2009, BS EN 13464-5:2011, BS EN 1127-1:2011 and BS EN 13617-1:2002

JPB Utilities benefit from bringing their fuel in-house with Merridale

Since 2018, JPB have been using Merridale’s MX-I to refuel, monitor and keep track of their extensive fuel use and large fleet of vehicles, having previously used only receipts and hand-written accounts of transactions to stay up-to-date. Built to be the complete solution in commercial fuelling and designed to meet strict ATEX standards, the MX-I […]

Merridale Systems Become the Solution for Major Internet Provider

Having an unusual problem of one of the locations being highly remote and without power meant that this job was slightly different to Merridale’s standard installations but none-the-less, they were able to find the solution quickly and provide a temporary self-sufficient system. Marcus, who leads operations for the internet provider said “We needed a temporary […]

Three Decades Of Merridale Fuel Pumps

With Merridale’s own range now available, as well as still supplying Gilbarco with fuel management units, the marketplace had the choice of buying either a complete Merridale built package or a Gilbarco built version of the same management system. However, over the decades that followed, Merridale enhanced its product range by introducing true twin units, […]
